The U-Taphao Station is the first railway station in Hat Yai, built in the year 2452 B.E. It served as a major junction, allowing trains to split towards the Songkhla Station. However, due to its location in a flood-prone area by the river, the station faced annual flooding issues. Therefore, in 2465 B.E., the Thai Railway Authority relocated the main station to Hat Yai Junction. The Hat Yai Junction Station has been in continuous operation ever since.
